CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara

When we divas find a great mascara, we talk about it like men do for cars. I heard of Covergirl’s Lashblast Volume mascara from some girlfriends who swore by it, and had to get my hands on a tube. This mascara comes in a bright summery orange bottle, and the package reveals the thick body of the brush by placing it separate from the bottle (i.e. not yet dipped into the bottle).

On the first application, I realized one coat or swipe of mascara was definitely not enough and somewhat clumpy due to the thickness of the brush and short bristles. However, more strokes produced wow volume eyelashes by combing through the clump and thickening my lashes. I compared my bare lashes to the lashes with mascara and the difference was noticeable, in a good way. My lashes were nicely separated and when some lashes weren’t behaving (like they tend to do), I simply combed them with a lash comb while the mascara was still wet.

I have a bad habit of rubbing my eyes and on this particular day, my contact lenses were being unruly. My eyes were tearing up pretty bad and I had to take my contacts out before removing the mascara. By the end of my eye fiasco, the mascara was pretty much not visible anymore. Even on regular days wearing glasses, the mascara was easily smudged. And that’s probably because most volumizing mascaras have thicker, moisty formulas, not the best combination for smudge-proofness but the best recipe for volume. Whatever the case is, you’ll want to keep your fingers away from your eyes if you don’t want to look like a raccoon.

As for lasting power, this mascara performed quite well. It didn’t smudge into my bottom lashes like other mascaras do, and my lashes were thick and volumous well into the night. I should also note that this mascara might be too intense for the day time and more appropriate for a night out, but that might just be how it looked on me. I would recommend trying it on and gauging whether it looks like you’re fresh faced and open-eyed, or like you’re about to hit the club with heels and all.

My one gripe with this mascara is that it’s not very convenient for on-the-go application. It required a concentrated and steady hand with slow strokes to make it work. Overall, a 4.5 on the Cos View scale.
