Rimmel Stay Matte Clarifying Foundation

Since I enjoyed the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder so much, I decided to give the Rimmel Stay Matte Clarifying Foundation a try. It claims 12 hour shine control with matte coverage, much like the pressed powder, but I think that number is a bit exaggerated.
My skin is fairly clear except for some redness and blemishes, so I focused on my chin and around my nose. I first tried applying the foundation with a makeup sponge, but I found the color to be so sheer that my hands served as better applicators. Tapping the lightweight liquid with my fingertips lessened the sheerness, but I found it a little difficult to blend the foundation without smearing it too thin. However, the liquid didn’t look cakey and the color in the bottle matched the liquid on my skin so I was delighted with that. It also improved my complexion, and you couldn’t really tell I was wearing foundation.
The liquid foundation had no funny smell to it – totally fragrance free and best of all – OIL free! The foundation reduced the shine on my face to a nice matte finish – exactly what Rimmel claims. I set the foundation with the Rimmel Pressed Powder for a flawless and shine free look, but only time would tell if the look could hold on.
Within 2 or more hours, the makeup just didn’t seem so strong. Especially on the days I skipped the pressed powder, the liquid foundation kind of died out. It DID control the shine and did not dry my skin out, but I saw the redness in my chin come through, so it did need reapplication.
I guess one way to work around the weak staying powder would be to apply more product to my face. But I generally try to avoid doing that because I’m already annoyed by any oil and dirt on my face, and layers of foundation would only bug me more.
Here’s some food for thought – the ingredients included cucumber extract, cotton powder, fruit extract, flower/leaf extract, and radish root… What a delicious and healthy face salad. There’s also salicylic acid since this liquid foundation is non-acnegenic – nice to have your liquid foundation give you coverage while exfoliating your face.
Staying power was a little disappointing, but I liked the coverage and shine control. 4 stars on the Cos Scale!
