Smashbox Baked Fusion Soft Lights Bronzer
Bronzer can do so much to a face– warms it up immediately, contours when needed, even highlights when applied properly, so it goes without saying that it is one of my absolute favorite products to play around with. And now I have found a great bronzer option when sifting through my stash: the Smashbox Baked Fusion Soft Lights. It comes in two shades, Starburst which is a bronzer, and Stardust which is a highlighting powder.
When I first looked at the color in the pan, I was thinking it would be too light for my medium toned skin but couldn’t resist the tempting shimmery array of shades staring back at me. So I took a medium sized blush brush and swirled it around all of the gorgeous shades evenly to pick up some of that shimmery color onto it.
It’s often the first swipe that tells me much of what I need to know about a product. Typically speaking with finely milled products, there is too much fallout and excess waste when I go in to pick up color onto my brush. Sure, these are the powdered pigments that are the easiest to blend, but if I’m spending upwards of $30 for a bronzer (or any other powdered product) I don’t want half of it going to waste. That certainly was not the case with the Smashbox Soft Lights. There was hardly any excess powder, but my brush was still able to pick up the perfect amount of product without my having to scrape with all my might.
On the first trial, I prepped my face to make this product the main focus – moisturized, primed, concealed and that was it. No foundation, no powder. The result of the shimmery starburst of colors in the pan translated to a satin-like sheen on my face. The shimmer was not at all the center of attention. Instead, it was this glow on my face that wasn’t at all obvious as to where it was coming from. Blending was a breeze (partially because the combined color was so close to my actual skin tone), and staying power was definitely there (there until the end of the evening, when I went to remove my makeup).
If I had to say something negative about this product, it would be that it only comes in two shades. The bronzer was a tad bit too light for it to be a bronzer on my skin, and would end up being a highlighter on anyone darker than me. The highlighter is next on my hit-list, but I would have loved to have seen a darker option in the bronzer.
Smashbox is definitely going to get more of my attention, and the Baked Fusion Soft Lights gets 4.5 stars in my book!
