tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint
When I saw the Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint, the first thing that came to mind was the less than mediocre experience I recently had with their Rise & Shine Plumping Lip Stain and Gloss, but there was something about it that made me put it in my cart. …And I am so glad I did!
Available in a handful of shades ranging from a soft pink (charmed) to a deep brownish plum (moody) at $24 a pop, this product claims a 6000% increase in lip moisture over 28 days. Whatever that means.
With the way it looks on screen and in photographs, I was very much expecting a product similar to the MAC Pro Longwear Lipstain Marker, in which the pigment was held in a liquid form and delivered through a felt like tip. My expectations were completely off. Instead, they have a shiny tip and when applied they feel like a cross between a balm and a gloss (if you’re having trouble imagining it, it’s quite a lovely experience). And what to do when the head of the pencil becomes a unrecognizable stub? Simply twist the bottom of the tube to bring up more product. And unlike many other twist up products, you can twist this one down which is a definite plus in my book.
While I’m not sure I would call this product a stain (tarte calls it both a tint and a stain, tint being a much more accurate description), it is still important with this product and any stain to be sure your lips are exfoliated prior to application. Doing so will ensure that you stain your lips, not the dead skin that sometimes appears. With this particular product, the texture of the formula in combination with its color calls for smooth lips because the glossy tint will be interfered with anything less than smooth.
I am guessing the “LipSurgence” is in reference to the moisture surge this product offers, and actually I was quite surprised how much of the moisture my lips took in. The subtle scent of peppermint oil didn’t hurt either! With the constantly changing weather in Chicago, at times my lips get a little dry on some days so this is definitely something I could see myself reaching for when I’m in the mood for more than just a plain balm. I could also see myself reaching for one of these Lip Tints when I’m looking for a subtle amount of color.
For all it offers, including a natural ingredient list, 4.5 stars on The Cos View scale.

I would love to try the brownish plum which goes well with my Asian color. Is this on the market already? I have to find one.

This seems like a great pick. I live in Chicago too, and all the so-called lip stains I’ve tried so far, have been drying out my lips a lot. Will give this a shot! Thanks for the review
